My student teacher, Hunter, and I had a chance to present at the CalTeach symposium this past year!  We had a chance to share our reflective feedback tracker for teacher growth that we implemented, which allowed him to have a documented progress tracker of his growth as a teacher.

This was instrumental towards his growth as a teacher because it allowed him to look back over the years at specific instances of how he has grown in “x”, which ranges from classroom management and student engagement to lesson design and implementation.  We essentially tied each of these growth goals based around the CSTPs to his reflection.  Looking back, he mentioned that it was great for interviews, as it allowed him to have specific pieces of evidence that were clear and descriptive to describe his growth.

The most important part of this process though was the intentional reflection meetings that we had at the beginning and end of each week to work towards growth. In addition, when we couldn’t meet, I sent emails back and forth continuing the reflection. Here’s a sample:

In the process, I grew just as much I hope my student teacher did — reflecting on my own teaching practices as I was writing and coaching.
